Bushfires hit Meredith – Paringa and Bungle Gully
On the 9th of January bushfires swept through a part of our farm called Paringa and Bungle Gully, a place that was special to us for many reasons. Paringa was an area for conservation and preservation, the beautiful area was home to native wildlife and some impressive trees that are estimated to be 200 years old. Any visit to Paringa was almost certain for you to see a kangaroo, echidna or maybe even a koala if you were lucky. The area was also home to many of our crops that we grow on the farm, like wheat and barley.
The fires swept through and unfortunately took away the beautiful green and left behind grey ash and burnt out trees. It was a devastating thing to see, an area once full of life became very quiet and eery. As sad as we are to have lost this beautiful part of our farm we were very lucky that the fires did not spread to our main dairy and no homes or people/animals lives were lost.
Moving forward we are planning to regenerate the land and bring it back to the beautiful area it was before. We plan to plant new trees, work on removing any invasive weeds, and create a new environment for the native wildlife to thrive and have a home.
